Refuge congratulates Hilton Dawson MP for award
Hilton Dawson MP wins epolitix award for work with children
Hilton Dawson MP, nominated by Refuge, has been announced the winner of the children and youth category for this year’s annual epolitix Charity Champion Awards. The awards honour the hard work, time and effort devoted by MPs and Peers to charitable causes during the parliamentary year.
Refuge nominated Hilton Dawson MP for the children and youth category in recognition of his continued support on domestic violence issues, which has ensured that the needs of women and children are reflected in policy and practice.
Sandra Horley, OBE, Chief Executive of Refuge says: “Hilton’s long-term support of the domestic violence issue has been unwavering, especially in recent months where he has been actively campaigning to try to ensure that children are recognised and supported in both the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Bill and the Children Bill.
“Every day at Refuge we work with children who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence. Living with domestic violence as a victim witness – or both – is detrimental to children’s physical, emotional and mental health as well as their education and life chances. Refuge is delighted that Hilton Dawson has committed so much of his time and energy into giving these children a voice. This is a well deserved award.”
