Jenny Tomlin launches new book

From the author of ‘Behind Closed Doors’, the No.1 bestseller, comes an even more harrowing and powerful true story from Jenny Tomlin and Kim Challinor – ‘Silent Sisters, the true price of growing up in the shadow of abuse’.

Jenny and Kim have kindly included a page in the book about Refuge.

Jenny said: ‘I am honored and proud that my book is being supported by Refuge.  No one should have to face a life of domestic violence and abuse, and to this end, I praise the work that Refuge do.  With awareness and the ability to show you that you are not alone, Refuge works tirelessly to stamp out this level of abuse in our society today and to embrace and work with the victims to get their lives back on track. With our support Refuge can carry on this invaluable work and I personally congratulate them in all that they have done and will do in the future.’

‘Jenny Tomlin is an inspiration and I am honoured to call her my mum’ Martine McCutcheon

Jenny Tomlin’s debut book, Behind Closed Doors, was an instand bestseller, sitting at No.1 in the hardback charts for over three months. The story of a brutal childhood, growing up in a house where no one was safe and violent beatings and sexual abuse were a daily occurrence for Jenny and her younger sister, Kim, the book was all the more powerful for reflecting the strength of character it took to escape.

Both Jenny and Kim left the family home as soon as they could, but in a sickening, and often seen, pattern of violence, Jenny went on to suffer unimaginable degradations at the hands of a violent partner. In spite of all she had witnessed, Jenny became caught in the same prison of fear as her mother and despite all her warnings, Kim was rendered helpless watching the cycle of abuse repeated.

Through all the nightmares, the powerful bond that had been strengthened by their childhood experiences, kept the sisters going. It gave them the strength not only to survive all life could throw at them, but to ultimately triumph over the past. Jenny always vowed she would never let anyone hurt her daughter, Martine, and this promise ultimately brought her through the darkest times. Told in the alternating voices of the two sisters, this is a profoundly courageous tale of the strength of the human spirit and the redemptive power of love.
