Since opening the world’s first refuge for abused women and children in Chiswick, West London, in 1971, Refuge has grown to become the country’s largest single provider of emergency accommodation and specialist support for women and children who have experienced domestic violence. On any given day we help over 1,600 women and children.

Advocacy Co-ordinator – Salary £33,000 – £36,000

Location: Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering

Fixed term for 3 years

This innovative, exciting new project will provide specialist independent domestic and sexual violence services.  This will include a package of support covering crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. A key aspect of the role will be to advocate on behalf of service users pursuing remedies through the criminal and civil justice systems.

This project will be based in Barking and Dagenham and a specialist maternity setting which provides support for those accessing the service from Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

We are now recruiting a team of proactive, experienced and enthusiastic individuals to perform the following new roles:

Advocacy Coordinator (Ref 001BK)

This new role will require you to manage and motivate a team of six independent domestic and sexual violence advocates who will provide specialist support to service users of domestic violence and non-intimate partner sexual violence. You will provide direct line management to advocates and coordinate the community based project in Barking and Dagenham and a maternity based project in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

The post holder will work with a wide range of contacts consistent with the high profile of this new project. Your role will be to build and maintain effective multi-agency partnerships, represent Refuge at community meetings and ensure that a high quality support service is provided. A key aspect of the post will also be to develop and provide domestic violence training to midwives and health care professionals.
