Since opening the world’s first refuge for abused women and children in Chiswick, West London, in 1971, Refuge has grown to become the country’s largest single provider of emergency accommodation and specialist support for women and children who have experienced domestic violence. On any given day we help over 1,600 women and children.

Independent Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocates x 5 – Salary £26,000 – £28,000

Location: Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering

Fixed term for 3 years

This innovative, exciting new project will provide specialist independent domestic and sexual violence services.  This will include a package of support covering crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. A key aspect of the role will be to advocate on behalf of service users pursuing remedies through the criminal and civil justice systems.

This project will be based in Barking and Dagenham and a specialist maternity setting which provides support for those accessing the service from Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

We are now recruiting a team of proactive, experienced and enthusiastic individuals to perform the following new roles:

These roles provide an excellent opportunity to play a key role in this new initiative.  Successful applicants will have experience of providing emotional and practical support to victims of domestic and sexual violence and strong casework management skills.  Experience of working in a health setting would be desirable.

If you have experience of working with victims of domestic and/or sexual violence and a detailed working knowledge of the criminal and civil justice systems this is a unique opportunity to develop further your skills and career.
