Refuge is the largest specialist service provider of domestic violence services in the country. It opened the world’s very first refuge in London in 1971 and celebrated its 40th birthday in 2011. On any given day Refuge is supporting over 1,600 women and children. It also runs the Freephone 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Women’s Aid.

Hackney

We have recently been successful in securing funding for a children’s support worker for our Hackney services for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

We are looking to recruit a female* candidate with experience in working with children and a recognised qualification such as an NNEB or NVQ level 3.  You will be responsible for organising and providing play activities for children and will work closely with refuge workers to provide practical information and assistance to women about local services for children, such as play schemes, nursery or schools.

The successful candidate will be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting women and children escaping domestic violence.  You will have good communication and team work skills and be able to use your own initiative.  You will show strong organisational and administration skills.  You will be able to speak one of the South Asian or South East Asian Languages.

The ability to build a rapport and trust with children and their mothers is essential in this work. Experience of supporting children and families who have experienced domestic violence is desirable.
