Refuge is the largest specialist service provider of domestic violence services in the country. It opened the world’s very first refuge in London in 1971 and celebrates its 40th birthday in 2011. On any given day Refuge is supporting over 1,600 women and children. It also runs the Freephone 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Women’s Aid.

Hours: 37.5per week Salary: C£31,000 pro rata

Do you want an outstanding deputy management role calling upon all your versatility, judgment and tact? Do you have the ability to motivate and communicate well with others? Refuge is looking for an exceptional deputy manager for our South London service. This role requires an exceptional individual who wants to make a difference.
The role involves working closely with abused women and their children who are living in our refuges escaping domestic violence. You will assist the domestic violence services manager in delivering high quality support and refuge housing and community services.
You will have proven experience of providing direct emotional and practical support, and of managing case work. In addition you will have experience of managing and motivating staff, knowledge of domestic violence issues, experience of providing support to African and Caribbean women, and experience of working in either a women’s refuge or residential setting. A recognised social work, housing or management qualification would be desirable.
As member of the management team the postholder, will be required to be available to deal with out of hours emergencies.
