Refuge is the largest specialist provider of domestic violence services in the country. It opened the world’s very first refuge in London in 1971 and celebrated its 40th birthday in 2011. On any given day Refuge supports over 1,600 women and children. It also runs the Freephone 24-hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Women’s Aid.

We are proud to announce that we will be working in partnership with Lambeth Council as together we launch the new Violence Against Women and Girls Gaia Centre, which will offer a range of innovative support services for victims of gender-based violence.

To support the delivery of this important project we are looking for highly motivated and committed people to join Refuge and the Gaia Centre team, and have the following vacancy:

37.5 hours per week plus out of hours on a rota-basis

C£26,000 per annum plus on-call premium payment, plus benefits

FIXED-TERM CONTRACT until 31/03/2014

Gaia Centre, Brixton, SW London

This is an exciting new role to reach out to and support 14 – 16 year-old girls who have experienced or who may be at risk of gender-based violence in Lambeth.

You will manage a caseload of 14-16 year-old clients, providing one-to-one emotional and practical support. And you will work in partnership with other agencies to secure the best outcomes for your clients and for other survivors of gender-based violence in Lambeth.

You will also deliver preventative and outreach interventions in schools and youth organisations to reach out to young women at risk of gender-based violence and overlapping issues such as gang violence and teenage pregnancy as well as working in partnership with other agencies to deliver presentations and informal training to increase local understanding and improve the coordinated response to gender-based violence.

You will have demonstrable experience of providing emotional and practical support within the violence against women and girls sector, significant experience of working in a multi-agency setting, and a clear commitment to securing positive life outcomes for your clients and to making the Gaia centre a success.

You will be self-sufficient, assertive and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with empathy and sensitivity to build and develop supportive relationships with teenaged survivors of abuse and their children whilst maintaining professional boundaries and adhering fully to Refuge’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
