Volunteering

Volunteering

Refuge relies on the goodwill of dedicated individuals to continue its fight against domestic violence.

If you can spare an hour a month or a few hours a year, you can become part of a greater family, striving for a world free from violence. We value your time and aim to make best possible use of your skills.

The fundraising department is currently searching for keen volunteers who are available for a couple of hours during office hours to help progress a number of projects. We are looking for individuals who are keen to help with events, appeals, research and design projects. If you can offer your skills or your time to Refuge, please email your CV to: volunteering@refuge.org.uk. Alternatively, complete our application form and email it to volunteering@refuge.org.uk.

If you’ve always wanted to make a difference, give a helping hand and make use of your skills but are not sure how your time would be best applied in a charitable context, email volunteering@refuge.org.uk. We’ll be happy to talk you through the many options.

We can guarantee that your support really will make a difference to women and children escaping domestic violence.

Refuge is committed to equal opportunities and our recruitment procedures reflect our commitment to the protection of women and children from abuse. This applies to both volunteers and paid staff.

NB: Volunteering on the National Domestic Violence Helpline

We are very thankful to all of you who are interested in volunteering with the National Domestic Violence Helpline (NDVHL).  We have received such a positive and overwhelming response to the volunteer programme that we must unfortuately stop recruiting until further notice.  It is wonderful that so many of you want to give your time and dedication to such a worthwhile cause – working towards reducing domestic violence and assisting those woman who call our service.  We are thankful to our current volunteers who have worked with us for some time now and answer approximately 7,000 calls per year (9% of our calls to the helpline).  Because of our volunteers more women receive a good quality service about domestic violence being it referrals to local support, emergency accomodation or police support.  We value the support you are willing to give to women.  Please do keep us in mind for future volunteering opportunities and keep checking the Refuge web site for future recruitment dates.
