Refuge response to Home Secretary announcement of support for domestic abuse victims
Sandra Horley, CBE, chief executive of national domestic abuse charity Refuge says:
“Refuge welcomes the Government’s support at this critical time. We have worked around the clock to ensure our frontline specialist services remain open and accessible to women experiencing domestic abuse.
“Last week, following a targeted media push, on Monday 6th April, calls to Refuge’s National Domestic Abuse Helpline soared by 120% and visits to our Helpline website rose by a phenomenal 700% compared to the previous day. This demonstrates the sheer scale of need for frontline domestic abuse services.
“What is needed now, more than ever, is to ensure every woman experiencing domestic abuse is aware of the confidential support available. Women are not alone. Refuge stands with you today, tomorrow and in the future. If you need support, you can call free, anytime of day or night on 0808 2000 247. For further information visit www.nationaldahelpline.org.uk where you can let us know a safe time to contact you.
“We hope the Government’s campaign will reach the tens of thousands of women experiencing domestic abuse. Refuge is here to provide confidential help and support – you are not alone.”
