Support for disabled women

Find out how we support disabled women.

How can we support you?

Disabled women are twice as likely to experience domestic abuse as non-disabled women. They are also likely to experience abuse over a longer period of time and suffer more severe injuries as a result of the violence.

Refuge’s services will work with other statutory and voluntary services to ensure we can meet the needs of disabled women. Some of our refuges have access to accessible technology to support women and children with hearing or sight impairment. Many of our outreach and community support services are experienced with supporting women and children with disabilities or are neurodivergent and can work with you to ensure you get the support you need in a way that suits you.

Refuge have launched our BSL interpreted helpline, which can be accessed online Monday – Friday form 10am to 6pm.

Refuge’s staff work with local agencies to ensure that all women receive the support they need, including local health services.
