Sustainability Statement

Responding to Climate Change

Refuge is committed to a world where domestic abuse and violence against women and girls is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety. Refuge recognises the disproportionate impact of climate change upon women, and how it threatens that safety. Refuge is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050. And we are committed to protecting and caring for our natural environment in line with our purpose of empowering women to live without violence and fear.

Refuge is on a journey around sustainability. Currently, we are developing baseline data on our emissions and building a roadmap towards Net Zero that is aligned to the science and realistic, given our size and spheres of control. We are focusing on our procurement processes, property services and staff policies in the first instance. And we are ensuring robust governance – a Trustee sponsor and Senior Leadership Team sponsor will oversee implementation of our Environmental Policy and work plan. We are supported by a staff-led ‘Green Group’, the aim of which is to embed sustainable working practices across the organisation.
