Refuge announces actor Ellie Bamber as Ambassador
Actor Ellie Bamber has joined Refuge as its newest ambassador to raise awareness of the charity’s vital work in supporting domestic abuse survivors and their children.
Ellie Bamber made her film debut in 2014 and has since gone on to star in a host of major films and TV shows, including Nocturnal Animals, Red, White & Royal Blue, Disney’s Willow, the BBC’s 2019 adaptation of Les Misérables and Netflix’s The Serpent. Next year, Ellie will appear in the film Moss & Freud, playing Kate Moss.
While Refuge supports thousands of women and their children every year, our work is far from done. The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds, yet it is estimated that less than 24% of domestic abuse crime is reported to the police. Sadly, the scale of domestic abuse is immense, and our services are needed more than ever.
Ellie Bamber says:
“Even though 1 in 4 women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, this devastating issue is still not talked about enough. This is why I am working with Refuge to help survivors know that support is available to them and that they deserve to live free from fear. Refuge provides a lifeline for thousands of women and their children every year, and I am thrilled to be joining their celebrity ambassador programme so that we can work to not only support survivors, but campaign for a world where domestic abuse is not accepted.”
Refuge’s Chair of Trustees, Hetti Barkworth-Nanton, said:
“We are so excited to announce Ellie Bamber as our new ambassador. Already a star on the screen, Ellie will be working with Refuge to raise awareness about domestic abuse and champion the voices of survivors. We are so grateful to all our wonderful celebrity ambassadors who are helping us shine a light on our vital work, and we look forward to partnering with Ellie as we continue on our mission to help as many survivors as possible.”
