What our runners say

“The support I’ve had throughout, the WhatsApp group, the updates on our teams fundraising and the personal check-ins were so uplifting and supportive. I knew if I was struggling or concerned about fundraising, I could reach out with confidence.”

“The level of support is second to none, constant check ins and on hand for a call at any time. Also, Nikita from the in-memory team has been a wonder to work with.”

“Becca motivated me from the day I signed up, acknowledged every fundraising milestone I hit and sent me lots of encouraging messages. She looked after me and all the runners extremely well.”

Why choose Refuge?

Refuge provides a range of life saving services to help rebuild the lives of women and their children, free from fear and violence. We make sure the experiences of survivors are at the heart of our work and help amplify their voices. Our specialist staff understand the diverse and complex needs of those experiencing abuse and we are experts in the dynamics of domestic abuse and gender-based violence.

  • 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime.

  • One woman is killed by an abusive partner or ex every five days.

  • The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds.

Domestic abuse and violence against women and girls will only end when we create gender equality. Refuge is a feminist organisation striving for inclusivity and equality and our feminism is intersectional. Every day we work extensively and closely with survivors of domestic abuse, ensuring their diverse and varied experiences and needs are central to everything we do. We are committed to a world where domestic abuse and violence against women and girls is not tolerated, and where women and children can live safely.

What to consider before applying:

Refuge received over 130 applications last year. We’d love to offer everyone a place on the team, but unfortunately, we have a limited number of spots available.

Here are some top tips to help strengthen your application:

  1. Think carefully about your fundraising plans and who you can reach out to. Having lots of ideas is fantastic but make sure they’re realistic and achievable.
  2. Setting a higher fundraising target will help your application, but it’s just one of the many things we consider.
  3. We love hearing from people who are passionate about our cause. If you feel comfortable, please share why you want to support Refuge and any personal connection you have to our work.
  4. Try not to use AI to answer the questions or copy and paste from other charity applications. This will help you avoid mistakes and show us your commitment to the cause.

We’ll be reviewing applications over the coming weeks. No matter the outcome, you’ll hear from us, so please don’t worry if you don’t hear back right away.

We’re really excited to hear from you. Best of luck!
